OCD Therapy and Current Research

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is a complex adaptive way your body learned to protect itself. It is highly inheritable, often running in families. OCD can make you feel trapped in a cycle of unwanted thoughts, doubts, fears, and compulsive behaviors, even when part of you knows the fear is irrational.

You may find yourself checking, researching, seeking reassurance, avoiding certain situations, or mentally replaying things over and over, trying to finally feel certain or safe.

The problem isn't that you're thinking too much. It's that your nervous system has learned to treat uncertainty as danger.

One indicator in my experience in trauma work is that people who come to see me often talk about talk therapy as not effective. This paired with interruptions in EMDR will often prompt me to assess for late diagnosed OCD.

Think you would have known if you had OCD?

Many adults don't.

With OCD, The problem isn't that you're thinking too much. It's that your nervous system has learned to treat uncertainty as danger.

  • Kelli has truly been a game changer for my mental health. She has such a unique and compassionate approach to healing through EMDR. I’ve lived with CPTSD/OCD for a long time and have tried many forms of therapy, but working with Kelli has been unlike anything I’ve experienced before.

  • I can’t say enough about how grateful I am for Kelli. After experiencing a panic attack on a five-hour flight, I was feeling anxious and worried that my world would start to shrink because of it. Through somatic EMDR sessions with Kelli, we were able to get to the root of what I was experiencing in a way that felt safe and truly effective. I was initially apprehensive about EMDR and what it was, but after just one session, I felt a shift.
