FAQs
What is EMDR?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a gentle, science-backed way to help your brain heal from difficult or overwhelming experiences.
When something stressful or painful happens, your brain sometimes holds onto the memory like it’s still happening — keeping you stuck in patterns of anxiety, self-doubt, or emotional triggers. EMDR helps your brain “file” those memories properly so they lose their emotional charge.
During EMDR, you focus on a memory while your therapist guides you through simple eye movements, sounds, or gentle taps — kind of like how your brain processes things during deep sleep. This helps your mind reprocess what happened so it no longer feels as painful or defining.
People often say that after EMDR, the memory is still there, but it feels distant — like it finally belongs in the past. You might feel lighter, calmer, and more in control.
It’s not about erasing your past; it’s about freeing you from the hold it has on your present.
What does Somatic mean?
Somatic Therapy helps you heal by connecting your mind and body.
When you’ve been through stress or trauma, your body often remembers — even when your mind tries to move on. You might notice tension, tightness, or that feeling of being “on edge” for no clear reason. Somatic Therapy helps you listen to those signals and gently release them.
Instead of just talking about what happened, you also tune into your body’s sensations — like your breath, heartbeat, or posture — to find where stress is being held. Through grounding, movement, breathwork, and awareness, your body learns it’s safe again.
It’s not about forcing change; it’s about helping your body feel calm, connected, and at ease — so healing becomes something you feel, not just think about.
Do you take insurance or offer sliding scale?
Therapy is an investment, but I don’t need to tell you that. When you invest in your mental health, especially trauma work, you open your life to new opportunities, ones that you’ve only dreamt of before you processed your trauma.
I offer sliding scale to a limited amount of people. If you are only able to see me on a sliding scale, please text me to find out if any of those slots are open.
Additionally, I offer out of network benefits for most insurances that are a PPO - often the client will get back $600 of their $1000 at the end of the month by using this benefit. I take HSA and FSA.
For non-EMDR and online only therapy I do take Aetna and Quest through a company called Headway.
